HMD Global, the company that licensed the rights to produce Nokia phones, has revealed the flagship Nokia smartphone – Nokia 8. The smartphone has been unveiled in glossy blue, copper, matte blue and grey colour variants.
Nokia 8 has a 5.3-inch display (2560 x 1440). It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, coupled with 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of storage.
This is the first Nokia-branded Android phone to feature Zeiss optics on the front and rear cameras. On the front, there is 13MP PDAF sensor, with f/2.0 aperture and display flash. On the rear side, there are two cameras of 13MP; one color and another, monochrome. The two images are then combined into a single shot with greater contrast using ‘Image Fusion Technology’.
While the Nokia 8 currently runs Android N, it will be one of the first to receive Android O. It is backed by 3090mAh battery with Quick Charge. Connectivity options include 802.11a/b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, USB-C and 3.5mm headphone jack. The smartphone also features a fingerprint sensor on the front.
The company has also introduced Nokia’s Dual Sight technology to fire up both the rear and front-facing cameras at the same time, shooting video or photos of a subject and the smartphone operator simultaneously, which can be shared live directly to Facebook or YouTube. The company calls it “bothie”!
The Nokia 8 will go on sale in September in the West. Nokia has so far only confirmed the Europe pricing, which will be €599 (approx Rs 45,000). As per reports, the company plans to launch the smartphone in India in October.
