The daughter of hawkish US Senator John McCain announced Friday her father had finished the first round of radiation and chemotherapy after he was diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumor.
MOSCOW — The 80-year-old had an emergency surgery in July to remove a blood clot from above his left eye. Subsequent tissue pathology revealed a primary brain tumor, known as a glioblastoma.
"My father completed first round radiation/chemo. His resilience & strength is incredible. Fight goes on, here's to small wins," Meghan McCain, a Fox News journalist, said on Twitter.
Despite his condition, the Republican returned to the Senate earlier in August to cast a deciding vote that derailed President Donald Trump’s plans to repeal the Affordable Care Act, commonly referred to as Obamacare.
